STEP INTO THE SHADOW

Helping creators and creatives build and
develop work that portrays truth and engages audiences.

The Lacanian Encounter Association of Psychoanalysis specializes in helping creators and creatives build and develop work that portrays truth and engages audiences. Writers can analyze problematic scripts better to understand the characters, process, and goals. As a New York Psychoanalyst, Florencia knows that good writers are aware of the urgent emotions that shape human behavior.

However, there can be traits that escape comprehension. Beyond the organic sensitivity of the human condition can reside its artistic one.

Comprehending the body's subjectivity is essential to working with what makes human beings creative and productive at decision making. On it depends the opportunity of transmission and extension of their objects of creation.

International Clinical Psychologist Florencia Bernthal is a practicing psychoanalyst who specializes in working with creatives. Through her consulting practice, she invites artists, actors, writers, and show developers to put their storylines "on the couch." Her work explores the deeper psychological patterns that shape narrative—motivation, relational evolution, crisis, and redemption—elements that follow well-worn paths in the human psyche.

Florencia's approach focuses on both your creations—characters, scripts, and arcs—and your own creative process as a storyteller. She helps identify the psychological hurdles that may influence your work, consciously or unconsciously.

In the act of creation, bringing characters to life inevitably means confronting trauma, diagnosis, and the complexities of human behavior. Often, essential details are omitted—intentionally or not—creating gaps in narrative believability. Psychoanalytic consulting can reveal where those omissions stem from: past experiences, present blind spots, or emotional resistance.

Like in real life, screen time must accurately reflect where a character is coming from, what they're living through, and what lies ahead. Doing so doesn't just elevate realism—it brings the emotional truth of the work to the surface. In short, Florencia helps uncover what makes a piece truly come alive.
